A Tudor-style beachside home

Set against a breathtaking coastal backdrop, Alisa and Lysandra’s latest project is a true masterpiece – an Airbnb transformation that blends classic charm with modern sophistication. Tasked with revitalising Tudor Charm by the Bay, a Tudor-style beachside home, the design duo has seamlessly merged heritage character with contemporary coastal aesthetics, creating a stylish yet inviting retreat.

Approaching the renovation, Alisa and Lysandra aimed to enhance the home’s unique charm while integrating modern conveniences and durable materials suited for the high-turnover of guests. For a rental, durability and ease of maintenance are just as crucial as aesthetics. Easy-to-clean surfaces, premium finishes, and well-placed lighting maintain the home’s sophisticated appeal. Thoughtfully selected window treatments enhance natural light, privacy, and energy efficiency, ensuring a comfortable stay for every guest. The result is a perfect balance of timeless elegance and relaxed, beachside living.

“We wanted this Airbnb to feel like a luxurious home-away-from-home – a space that exudes both style and comfort while withstanding the demands of frequent guests,” says Lysandra. “Every detail has been carefully curated to enhance functionality and beauty.”

Transforming a home into a high-end Airbnb in just six weeks posed its challenges, but careful planning made all the difference. Selecting readily available, high-quality materials kept the project on track without compromising on design. “Luxaflex® window coverings allowed us to elevate both the style and functionality of this home,” says Alisa. “They provide insulation, light control, and privacy while complementing our cohesive design vision.”

“The living area is one of the home’s standout spaces,” adds Lysandra. Luxaflex® LumiShade® window coverings diffuse light beautifully, setting a relaxed and inviting tone. “We chose LumiShade® window coverings for their seamless indoor-outdoor flow, allowing easy movement through the space. Their versatility combines the function of a vertical blind with the softness of a sheer curtain. We also incorporated Luxaflex® Pirouette® Shadings in the back living area to offer precise light filtering and a refined, elegant style. The neutral-toned sheer curtains in Emerson Raw fabric enhance the open, airy ambiance.”

The open-plan living and dining areas are designed to maximise space and natural light. A deep navy feature wall contrasts with soft neutral furnishings, while woven textures and timber accents add depth and character. A statement pendant light casts a warm glow, enhancing the inviting ambiance. Luxaflex® sheer curtains frame the windows, filtering light and maintaining privacy without compromising the room’s airy feel. Plush seating with carefully curated cushions ensures this space is as comfortable as it is stylish.

The kitchen is a true focal point of the home, balancing contemporary functionality with classic charm. A warm timber island bench serves as the centerpiece, complemented by sleek cabinetry in muted tones that create a seamless, inviting aesthetic. Handcrafted tiled splashbacks, brushed brass fixtures, and rattan accents add layers of texture. Pendant lighting and elegant woven seating complete the look of this entertainer’s dream. In the laundry, Luxaflex® Plantation shutters provide stylish and practical light control, ensuring privacy while allowing natural light to flow through.

“The most rewarding part of this project was seeing the home come to life,” says Lysandra. “It’s a place where guests can unwind, enjoy a beautiful space, and create unforgettable memories.”

What I love about this Tudor style beachside home

  • I really love the rich colours and tones of neutrals that have been used throughout the house.  A house with character and architectural details is perfect for introducing rich tones to highlight these elements.  The use of the dark navy blue in the living room highlights the stunning doors and ceiling in the room.
  • The clever placement of colour is very appealing too.  Note that the dark navy blue has been used for a feature wall and then taken around the wall just above the picture rail for the other areas.  Partnered with a neutral that ties in with the window dressings and sofa, this is a very effective use of colour.
  • The furniture selections are perfect for a beachside home.  With the addition of rattan, linens and natural floorcoverings, the feeling is laid back, but still elegant.
  • I love the dark chocolate colour on the laundry walls.  This has turned what can be a very basic and utilitarian room, into one that is very appealing.  This strong tonal contrast highlights the beautiful Arts & Crafts style doors.
