Favourite rooms in June

I have been looking at modern farmhouse style a lot lately and many of the images that I have found have really jumped out at me as the look is classic, but also modern without some of the harsher edges that you see with contemporary design.  I have realised that many of the images I have chosen throughout June have been very much in this style.

Below are my favourite rooms in June together with what I love about them.

Favourite hallway

What I love about this hallway

  • All spaces should have a focal point and the arched black doors in this hallway are perfect.  This stunning feature draws your eye to the beautiful garden outside which it frames perfectly.  The doors are elegant and well proportioned to the space of the wall.
  • I was also really taken with the flooring.  I really like this mid tone colour in the oak floorboards as it balances so well with the black accents.  I also like the change in direction which delineates the hallway perfectly.  I am not always a fan of changing the look of flooring, but this hallway is generous in its size and so the change from herringbone to straight boards works.
  • Of course, the stunning pots and greenery complete the look perfectly.

Favourite Kitchen

What I love about this kitchen

  • If you have a farmhouse style home, then you can't go far wrong with a kitchen like this.
  • I really like the island bench as it is generous in size with seating and storage.  The glass fronted oak cabinets on the island set it apart from the main kitchen joinery so it becomes a feature without being too obvious.
  • The matching range hood continues the warm and welcoming feel.  The stone for the benchtop and splashback is understated and elegant too.
  • The black accents in the stunning glass pendants, tapware and door handles works perfectly with the gorgeous windows.
  • Really, there is nothing I dislike about this kitchen – absolutely stunning.

Favourite Butler's Pantry

What I love about this Butler's Pantry

  • I think what struck me the most about this Butler's pantry is that it has natural light.  Many of us don't have homes large enough to include a Butler's pantry, let alone one that has it's own large windows, but if you can dream, then this is what I would like.  The point to take away from this though is that some natural light in what is essentially a workroom in the house, is beneficial.  Perhaps even if you have a single storey home, then consider installing a skylight in this room.
  • I also really like the mix of timber, black and white that is the hallmark of Modern Farmhouse style.  The look is so warm and approachable.
  • This Butler's pantry also has a good amount of storage space and a long worktop.  The wine fridge is pretty amazing too!

What I love about this dining room

  • You can't go past a solid oak dining table that is simple and well made.  There is something very comforting about sitting at a long oak dining table that is both stylish and homely.
  • The chairs are sublime.  Simple in design, low enough that they are unobtrusive, but also large enough to be comfortable.  I believe that a good dining chair should have a comfortable seat cushion to encourage long lunches and dinners.
  • The pendants are very elegant and the stunning windows have been beautifully dressed with simple off white curtains hung high on a black metal rod.

What I love about this bedroom

  • The soft duck egg blue colour and wall panelling was the first element of the room that caught my eye and I loved it from there. This colour is perfect for bedrooms and has been overlooked a little lately in our zealotry for all things white and neutral.   The overall palette of the room is a comfortable neutral palette, but the addition of soft colour brings it to the next level.
  • I love the layers on the bed – doesn't it look so wonderfully comfortable?
  • The simple warm coloured sheers add another dimension and suit the space better than just a white option.

Favourite bathroom

What I love about this bathroom

  • As with the hallway in this post, the black doors are a perfect focal point in the room and I love that the style of these has been carried through to the shower enclosure doors.
  • Designing a bathroom with a completely separate shower like this with a tiled floor, means that you can install timber for the main section of the bathroom.  Adding a runner to the floor protects it and also completes the look well.  Bathrooms are often very clinical rooms, so anything that can be done to limit this is most welcome.  Remember that in addition to this being a functional space, it is also one that can be nice to linger and relax in too.
  • I really like the simple joinery around the bath too.  A welcome change to a freestanding bath and preferable to a traditional hob bath that is surrounded by tiles.

What I love about this living room

  • Again, the doors here are the feature.  It's well worth considering if you are building or renovating a home that some feature doors or windows can really bring your home to the next level.  The simple linen curtains are perfect as they don't detract from the architecture.
  • I really love the large off white linen sectional sofa.  Generous in size and very comfortable, this is a stunning piece that makes this a welcoming and cosy room.  It is also very practical too with its removable covers.
  • The layers of throws and cushions and the generous sized rug, complete the look perfectly.  What a lovely welcoming room.
