Teetering between Duck Egg Blue and Sage Green, Celadon Green is the perfect colour if you are looking for something very pretty and you love the mix of blues and greens.
Highly regarded by Chinese Dynasties and later prized by European explorers, pottery made with a unique Celadon glaze is still popular today. A beautiful delicate hue, it is most definitely based on the colour, Jade but in its lighter form, and depending upon where the pottery is made, it is just starting to edge towards its neighbour blue making it a beautiful subtle colour. With just the right amount of grey, Celadon is a winner in the decorating stakes as it is gentle, yet beautiful, just like the original pottery that graces museums around the world.
Colours that are often advertised as Seaspray or Duck Egg Blue can actually often be closer to a true Celadon. These tones all certainly go well together as they are very close in the colour spectrum and generally contain some grey. In sheer fabrics, it is often difficult to tell them apart and therefore this range of colours from Celadon to Duck Egg is perfect for people who don’t really want a definite green in their decorating scheme, but also don’t want a coastal blue theme either. The main appeal for decorators however is that Celadon always contains grey which makes it a very versatile colour for interiors. When partnered with crisp white, the effect is very pretty making it the perfect choice for a country decorating scheme.
A related colour palette works well for delicate colours like Celadon Green. This means that you partner it with very close colours in the spectrum; Sage green, teal and greys and whites with a green undertone.
Celadon is very popular in soft furnishing and drapery fabrics as its softness and nuances work well with more complex patterns. To introduce Celadon on your walls you could either use a subtle wallpaper design or select a Celadon Green that contains some grey.
My favourite Celadon Green paint colours
I have been through my fan decks and selected some of my favourite Celadon Green paint colours from soft off whites through to deeper tones.
What colours can I use with Celadon Green?
I like to use soft citron tones and dark, moody greens with Celadon Green. I also like the natural tones of timber and rattan with this delicate colour. Other paint colours to use are neutral biscuit tones, as shown in the colour palette below.
What you can be certain of when using Celadon Green, is that you will achieve a very pretty look. For this reason, I really like furniture painted in this colour as it makes an impact without being overwhelming. Pink is the complementary colour so an accent of this with a palette of different tones of Celadon, looks perfect.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing how to use Celadon Green. It is a subtle colour and so similar to Sage and Duck Egg Blue, but it is slightly different and is certainly worth considering for your next decorating palette.
