Favourite rooms in May

Do you find yourself going through the maze of Pinterest and becoming overwhelmed with the beautiful rooms displayed?  Most people do, so I have been through and looked at some of my favourite rooms that I have found in May and listed them below.  I also tell you why they work and what I love about them.

Favourite rooms in May

Whitney Parkinson Design

  • There is so much to love about this space that it is difficult to start!  I think the main appeal for me with this space is the balance of tonal levels.  There is a mix of dark grey, almost black with a soft off white that works perfectly. I really like the way that the island bench is the same tone as the dining room cabinetry which I feel links the two spaces together very successfully.  The dining table and chairs are a different style to the kitchen, but it works because of the flow with the joinery.
  • The lighting is stunning.  A simple tapered drum pendant with eye catching oversized lanterns looks stunning.
  • I love the warm tones of the oak flooring which grounds the space well.
  • The range hood is simple and elegant and creates a nice focal point.
  • Note how the cabinetry handles are a different colour on the black and the white joinery.  This is great attention to detail and demonstrates that not everything always has to match!

My favourite dining space

Wind the Key

  • I do like a dining room with a view and the greenery outside these stunning doors is delightful.
  • I love the use of oak here.  The look is so simple and solid with a stunning oak floor and table and dining chairs to match.  It’s a simple space, but it works because everything is beautifully finished and well designed.
  • The curtains hung from a high black rod are elegant and suit the room perfectly, while the styling of the lighting and greenery is beautiful.

My favourite living room

Studio McGee

  • I do like the mix of grey and oak with tan leather.  This is just such a smart and enduring look which has stood the test of time.  Tan leather is perfect with this palette as it introduces warmth and lifts the scheme beautifully.
  • I love the quirky marble side table and the lovely generous sized console table.  Nothing here matches, but it works perfectly together.  A classic Studio McGee living room that will always delight.

My favourite bathroom

  • I do love a bathroom that is decorated like a normal room.  This removes the often sterile look of a bathroom and just makes it much more interesting.
  • I am a big fan of V groove panelling in bathrooms for areas that don’t get wet.  It is far cheaper than tiling and the colour can easily be updated when you fancy a change.  By using a classic marble in the wet areas, the room is one that will endure and can be easily modernised as tastes change.
  • I love the vanity unit with the marble top – again a classic choice.
  • The wall lights, artwork and gorgeous greenery complete the look perfectly.  If you look hard you can see the toilet suite, but it isn’t immediately evident, which is a very clever design.

My favourite bedroom

  • There are some gorgeous bedrooms on the internet, but you don’t see many with colour.  This room really took my eye as I love the layers of pink and green that have been introduced.  I just think that this is such a pretty room.
  • With the fresh white wall panelling, neutral carpet and white plantation shutters, this is a blank canvas which could run the risk of being a little sterile.  However with the quirky floral bedhead and beautiful cushions and throws, the room has been transformed.
  • I hope that this has inspired you to inject a little colour into your life.

Hopefully you have been inspired by my favourite rooms in May.  Are any of these your favourites?
